Who We Are
Southland Disposal Company is family owned and operated with over 100 years of experience in the solid waste and recycling industry. It all started in the early 1900’s when our relatives emigrated from Armenia to the Los Angeles area. The family began a hog raising business that led them to waste collection and recycling. They had to feed the hogs, so they started collecting food waste from commercial establishments. The food waste was brought to the ranch and sanitized by processing in a steam boiler system to make it safe to feed the hogs.
100 years of Solid Waste and Recycling
For decades, Southland Disposal held its own competing among many independent haulers. Eventually, the industry consolidated with larger corporations acquiring many of the smaller, independent haulers. Through all these industry changes, Southland Disposal remained independent and continued to thrive.
To better meet customer needs to achieve zero waste and state mandated recycling goals, we developed a sister company, City Terrace Recycling, LLC, a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) where solid waste is processed to recover recyclable materials from mixed solid waste through a combination of automated sorting systems and human sorters.
Today, Southland Disposal is a full-service solid waste and recycling services provider serving commercial and industrial establishments, residential and multifamily premises, and construction & demolition sites. We operate a fleet of collection vehicles which are serviced and maintained at our own maintenance facility, fabrication shop, and fueling station.
Southland Disposal is still family owned and operated. Robert M. Arsenian and family along with all valued employees, take much pride in continuing to follow the traditions and history of a family of recycling pioneers.
We are committed to safety, quality service, and providing our customers with cost effective recycling solutions that gear toward zero waste. We look forward to continuing an innovative approach to resource recovery, industry leadership and sustainable practices in the communities we serve.
